Two sisters, Masha and Anya, are separated by lives in different countries: Masha lives in Moscow, hosts a cooking show, supports her family (her mother, Lyubov Pavlovna, and her son), and is in a complicated relationship with actor Roman Noskov. Anya lives in Odessa with her husband, Vadim (an SBU colonel), and their son. On February 23, Vadim hastily sends Anya and their child to Moscow, ostensibly for her grandmother's anniversary. The events of the SVO begin the next day.
