It was about to be a great summer day for Kara Robinson Chamberlain. In her mid-teens, she lived in Lexington, South Carolina. On the morning of June 24, 2002, Kara and her friend Heather planned to hang out at a nearby lake. But Heather’s mom had called right before they left, and she wanted some help watering the flowers at the front of her house, so she asked them to do it before they went out for the day. Surely nothing bad was going to happen in a place like this, and Kara was used to being able to go wherever she wanted. Heather needed to take a shower, So Kara helped finish up her flower-watering chores and stayed outside on her own. She even said that:
